Renato Sanches Beats Iheanacho, Iwobi & Co To Clinch Golden Boy Award

Renato Sanches has been named the European Golden Boy award winnerThe 19-year-old saw off competition from Kelechi Iheanacho & Alex Iwobi 

The 19-year-old is to be handed a trophy at a Monte Carlo ceremony after beating Manchester United youngster Marcus Rashford and a host of others to the prize. 


Bayern's Kingsley Coman and AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma were other contenders.

Sanches was selected following a vote by journalists from 30 newspapers across Europe to name the best player in 2016 under the age of 21.

The Golden Boy is awarded to a player aged under 21 and playing in one of Europe's top tiers who is perceived to have been the most impressive during a calendar year. 

It is voted for by 30 news outlets from across Europe.
