Van Gaal: Man Utd unlikely to make January buys

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says it is unlikely that the club will sign players in January.

The Dutchman remained tight-lipped over the potential arrival of Lazio midfielder Felipe Anderson when asked about any deal following the club's 1-0 victory over Sheffield United on Saturday.

Reports has it that the Premier League club are ready to trigger a £35 million release clause for the 22-year-old although Van Gaal, while conceding he needs "creative players", has suggested it will be difficult to add to his squad in the winter window.

"I don't think we shall do business in January," he told reporters.

"You cannot say that [for certain] because when there is a chance to make the selection better, then we shall do it. [But] I don't think that we shall do that.

"I have said also in transfer period that we need creative players, with speed. And we don't have that too much.

"[Juan] Mata is playing on the right side and is doing fantastically. He has always a big contribution for our team. But he is not a right winger in the profile that I have.

"It's not so easy to chase players who are better than Mata."
