Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has said the club
would be willing to sell midfielder Ilkay Gundogan to Bayern Munich this
summer.
Gundogan, 24, is set to leave Dortmund at the end of the season as he has just over a year remaining on his contract and, according to ESPN FC sources, he has told the club he wants to leave.
Manchester United were reported to have agreed a deal with the Germany international, but Zorc strongly denied those rumours, and ESPN FC was informed that both Bayern and Juventus were in the running for his signature.
Bayern have controversially signed both Mario Gotze and Robert
Lewandowski from Dortmund in recent years, paying the former's release
clause and bringing in the latter upon the expiry of his contract, and
that had led to significant tension between the two clubs.
However, it appeared that the "ice age" between the German powerhouses may have ended this week, and Zorc said his club would be willing to do business with Bayern over Gundogan.
Asked whether the player could join the Bundesliga champions, Zorc told Sky it would "not decide the war" -- a phrase meaning it would not make a difference.
However, he added: "Of course, we would prefer it if he didn't join a
Bundesliga rival -- although they are not so much rivals in a sporting
sense this year."
While Dortmund are ready to cash in on Gundogan, they will only do so
if they receive a suitable offer, and Zorc added that there was
currently "nothing" on the table.
