Bale is suffering at Real Madrid, says Toshack

Former Real Madrid coach John Toshack believes Gareth Bale is "suffering" right now and questioned what is going wrong for the winger.

The 25-year-old has netted 17 times for the Blancos in 2014-15, but he has only scored three times in
his last 20 appearances to leave his future looking uncertain with one game of the season to go.

Toshack, who coached Bale for a brief time during his six-year Wales stint, is baffled by Bale's downturn in form and fitness problems, but does not doubt his compatriot's talent.

"There's something wrong with Bale," the two-time Santiago Bernabeu coach, who is currently in charge of Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca, told Marca. "At Tottenham he was at the centre of their attacks, he played with mobility.

"Bale is much better than he is showing for Real Madrid right now. Much better, not just a bit better. The situation is strange, he doesn't seem happy at all.

"It is true that playing for Real Madrid has a lot of pressure, but that shouldn't be the problem after two years. I see strange things, like Cristiano Ronaldo gestures and the way he looks.
"Injuries have impacted his ability to perform, admittedly. But he is suffering."

Manchester United have been strongly linked with Bale since January, with Louis van Gaal's men reported to be considering a €120m bid to bring the Welshman back to the Premier League.
