Why wouldn't Real Madrid Fans Cheer For Messi, says La Liga President

Spanish La Liga president Javier Tebas admits there could well be a tribute to Barcelona star Lionel Messi in front of the Real Madrid fans at the Santiago Bernabeu next week Thegoalmac can reveal.

Do you agree that Real Madrid fans should cheer for Messi either when he breaks the record at Bernabeu,or when he is being honoured,if he breaks it today against Eibar?Continue for what he said.
The Argentina international is just two goals away from breaking Telmo Zarra's record of 251 Liga goals and should the 27-year-old surpass the mark in Barca’s clash with Eibar on Saturday, there could well be a ceremony at the Clasico on October 25.

And Tebas says that despite the rivalry that exists between the two clubs, Messi would not be the first Barca star to earn a public show of admiration from the Blancos faithful.

"On that same pitch I've seen the crowd give [Diego] Maradona and Ronaldinho a standing ovation. I think Spanish football realises how important the player is to our league,” he told Marca.

"Real Madrid fans know football and have always been a very gentlemanly crowd. If they've applauded these two superstars, why wouldn't they applaud Messi?”

Tebas did, however, concede that if there were any genuine fears that an official acknowledgement of Messi’s potential feat would further sour the atmosphere inside the capital, the ceremony could easily be held somewhere else.

"It can be suggested, but if there are concerns it can be done somewhere else and that won't matter - the tribute will have the same value," he added.

"Messi deserves a tribute every game. If it isn't then, then it'll be in another, but he'll have to have a tribute somewhere."
