OMG! Ex Barca President and Son sentenced for 6 years in prison

This is simply unbelievable and scandalous as Thegoalmac can reveal that Former Barcelona president Josep Lluis Nunez and his son is set for a spell in prison after what has been described as the "greatest corruption scandal in the history of Catalunya". Continue for more details.

Nunez, Barca president between 1978 and 2000, oversaw the building of La Masia and was in charge during the Dream Team era, but was found guilty of tax evasion along with his son in 2011 and sentenced to six years in prison.

In a fraud case described by El Pais as "the greatest corruption scandal in the history of Catalunya", the Basque-born businessman and his son were found to have hatched a plan which saw them evade taxes to the tune of €13 million in the late 1990s.

The sentence was put back on immediate appeal in 2011, but magistrates have rejected a fresh plea from the family's lawyers to avoid prison altogether and the pair now look likely to face a term in jail later this year.

The news is the latest in a long line of scandals to rock Barcelona over the past year, with Lionel Messi caught up in allegations of tax fraud, former president Sandro Rosell in court following corruption claims in the Neymar transfer and Barca banned from signing players in 2015 due to irregularities in the recruitment of young players.

"It's another problem for Barca," Johan Cruyff told reporters after the Uefa Youth League match between Barca and Ajax on Tuesday.

"How many problems like this have we seen over the last few years? Six? Seven? Eight?"

And Cruyff, who instructed Nunez to build an Ajax-style academy on his departure as a player in 1978 and later worked under the Basque during his time as coach at Camp Nou between 1988 and 1996, added: "It damages the image of Barca.

It's the worst thing you can imagine [for the club]. It's not about one person or about another; it dirties the image [of Barca]."
