Big Shock! Yakubu Aiyegbeni Makes Sensational Return To English Football

Aiyegbeni yakubu made a sensational return to English football for minnows Boreham Wood against his old club reading today.

Aiyegbini, scorer of 21 goals in 57 international appearances for Nigeria, was back playing on English soil for the first time since his release by Reading in May 2015.

Boreham Wood announced the striker, who last season played 12 times, without scoring, for Turkish Super Lig side Kayserispor, would feature for the National League outfit in their friendly meeting with his last English team Reading.
Boreham Wood retained their National League status on the final day of last season ensuring they didn't suffer the drop just one year after being promoted from the Conference South (now the National League South).

Former Nigerian international Yakubu, 33, enjoyed a distinguished career in the Premier League — turning out for Portsmouth, Middlesbrough, Everton and Blackburn. However, he may be on the verge of dropping down four divisions if he joins Boreham Wood.

The 33-year-old perhaps reached his peak during his first season with Everton, following an £11.25 million move from Middlesbrough in August 2007.

Yakubu hit 21 goals in all competitions as the Merseysiders finished fifth in the Premier League and enjoyed lengthy runs in both the UEFA Cup and League Cup.

A serious achilles injury sustained in a game at Tottenham in November 2008 stalled the progress of a player who originally made his name in English football with Portsmouth, having moved to Fratton Park from Israeli team Maccabi Haifa in 2003.

After leaving Goodison Park Yakubu played for Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers. Subsequent spells in China and Qatar preceded his time with Reading.
