Former Niger Tornadoes striker Lookman Mohammed shot Rivers United in front against IfeanyiUbah after just 11 minutes.
The Port Harcourt club doubled their lead on 69 minutes through Gabriel Wassa.
Rivers United were reduced to 10 men in the 57th minute when Ayobami Aseokunowo was sent off after his second booking.
But despite their numerical disadvantage, Rivers dominated proceedings and could have won by a bigger margin.
In the first game of the day, a second-string Rangers team were held by Wikki, who maintained virtually the same team who upstaged IfeanyiUbah on the opening day.
