Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney faces being stripped of the England captaincy, according to reports in The Sun.
The 31-year-old was pictured drinking at a wedding reception following the Three Lions’ 3-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Scotland last week.
It is claimed that Gareth Southgate had told those at the party – including members of the coaching staff – to head back to their rooms and call it a night, only to see those instructions ignored.
Rooney is said to have been up until 5am and despite apologising for his actions, is now in danger of having the armband taken off him for future internationals.
Southgate, who saw his four-game spell as interim coach end after Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with
Spain, is expected to be handed the managerial reins on a permanent basis prior to the next round of fixtures in March.
