Mesut Ozil was so surprised with Germany's 7-1 thrashing of Brazil in the 2014 World Cup that he felt obliged to apologise to an emotional David Luiz after the game.
Brazil were favourites going into the semi-final with Joachim Low's side, and were widely expected to go on to lift the trophy on home soil.
However, Selecao found themselves 4-0 down after 30 minutes and lost the tie 7-1, leaving Ozil apologetic to Luiz and his team-mates for the nature of the defeat.
"All the players, me as well, were a little bit surprised," Ozil told Arsenal's YouTube channel. "After 20 mins it's 4-0 and you're like 'What's happened here?'.
"If you lose a big game and you see all the fans outside crying and the players crying, you feel with them. So I went to David Luiz and said 'I really apologise, you have a nice country and nice people'.
