Super Eagles Opponents Algeria Appoint Marc Wilmots As Head Coach

Algeria Football Federation (AFF) on Friday sealed a deal with former Belgium international and head coach, Marc Wilmots to handle their national team ahead of next month’s World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

Several top European coaches including Frenchmen Paul Le Guen and Alain Perrin were linked with the top post, but Wilmots signed the dotted lines Friday afternoon in Brussels.

The 47-year-old was in charge of Belgium between 2012 and 2016 after being assistant coach to Dick Advocat and Georges Leeskens.

The former Schalke 04 coach chalked up 34 wins, eight draws and nine losses when he was in charge of the Red Devils.

Incidentally, Algeria won 2-1 when they faced Belgium led by Wilmots at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Wilmots replaces Serbian tactician, Milovan Rajevac, who quit his post after Algeria were held to a 1-1 draw at home in a World Cup qualifier earlier this month.
