Despite making headlines for the wrong reasons, Cote d'Ivoire and Paris St Germain defender Serge Aurier has made a huge difference saving an opponent's life.
The Elephants defender has received praise for his bravery to save Malian striker's life, Moussa Doumbia in their 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifier last weekend which ended 3-1 in favour of the Elephants.
It is reported that Doumbia was unconscious after a challenge against Lamine Kone with the PSG man intervening to save the forward's life.
As Doumbia laid down unconsciously, the BBC website reports that Aurier stopped the Rostov player from swallowing his tongue.
The Eagles manager, Alain Giresse said he spoke to Aurier after the game to thank him for his "superb reactions".
"All the players realised that Doumbia was choking and was about to swallow his tongue," Giresse told French radio station RMC.
"That's when Aurier, with one of our players, quickly put him on his side and pulled out his tongue, because he was about to lose his life.”
Aurier also hit the headlines in the 3-1 win for the wrong reasons "by making a throat-slit gesture towards the crowd" after the Elephants' final goal.
The PSG full-back was suspended by the club in February after making homophobic comments about then-manager Laurent Blanc and former team-mate Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and in September he was handed a two-month jail sentence for elbowing a police officer.
