Former Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby has suffered a fresh setback after being ruled out for around four months following ankle surgery.
The 30-year-old joined Marseille in 2015 but featured just three times in Ligue 1 last term and also appeared just twice this season before needing to undergo surgery.
Diaby has struggled with regular injury troubles since breaking his ankle in a challenge by Sunderland's Dan Smith in 2006 while playing for the Gunners.
A statement on Marseille's website read: "For several weeks, midfielder Abou Diaby has been suffering with a right ankle problem. Given the persistence of the pain and that it was impossible for him to train, the medical staff decided surgery was necessary.”
Diaby made over 150 appearances for Arsenal before being released by the club due to his injury problems.
