Tanzania's Players Impressed With Uyo Stadium Condition; Vow To Beat Eagles

The Tanzanian team have professed their love with the aesthetic beauty of the Akwa Ibom state capital but the players insist they won't be distracted from the task of beating Nigeria on home soil.

Speaking to Complete Sports on Friday afternoon, defensive midfielder Hamid Mao admitted they have been wowed by the town as well as the five-star Le Meridien Hotel where they are lodged for Saturday's dead-rubber AFCON qualifying fixture against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

"Uyo is fine and the hotel here is beautiful but we want to beat your team," They escaped in Dar es Salam but you won't do that on Saturday. We'll take all three points." he said
The Taifa Stars of Tanzania had their first feel of the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo pitch around 4:45 pm Friday evening but the training session was nearly aborted due to the heavy downpour in the Akwa Ibom State capital.

They face the Super Eagles in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday from 5pm.
Weather conditions had been sunny and clear all through the day until about 2:30pm when the sky suddenly became cloudy.

Despite this, the Taifa Stars left their Le Meridien Hotel base and headed for the stadium before the heavens opened up on the way.

The team arrived at the imposing stadium and took to the pitch immediately, a move which seasoned CAF Commissioner Paul Bassey said was against FIFA rules.

The team proceeded to do light workouts under the eyes of a handful of spectators in the stands.
