Nathan Redmond scored on his Southampton debut to rescue a point for the hosts who had gone behind to an early goal from Etienne Capoue.
The Watford midfielder stunned the home fans with an early goal after just nine minutes, firing home Troy Deeney’s headed pass after good work from Nordin Amrabat.
However, Redmond equalised on his Southampton debut, volleying home a corner past Heurelho Gomes to level the scores just before the hour mark.
There was late drama too, substitute Ben Watson sent off for the visitors on 76 minutes for pulling back Shane Long but the hosts were unable to make their man advantage count and had to settle for a draw.
