Jose Mourinho admits Manchester United have had a “really bad” pre-season following their disruptive campaign in China.
United have played just three games this summer after poor weather cancelled their derby against Manchester City in Beijing, while several key players, including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney, have taken extended breaks after featuring at Euro 2016.
United are in action against Everton for Rooney’s testimonial on Wednesday evening, while their final warm-up game will be Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Leicester City at Wembley.
“My players need minutes, we had a really bad pre-season because of the Euros and then in China,” Mourinho told BT Sport.
“I am sorry for the fans but more important than to win the match is to get minutes in my players' legs.”
