Arsenal Chambers set to join Middlesbrough on loan?

Middlesbrough have agreed a deal with Arsenal to take defender Calum Chambers on a season-long loan.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger made the decision to let Chambers gain further Premier League experience after signing both Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding in his position this summer.

Despite Arsenal receiving interest from several clubs across Europe including Roma and Valencia, Wenger felt that the 21-year-old would be better suited to another top flight English side where he can develop his defensive qualities.

Wenger signed Chambers' England Under-21 team-mate Holding from Bolton earlier this summer and believes he will benefit from learning his trade at Arsenal for the time being, while Mustafi has been identified as the man to eventually replace Per Mertesacker, who is presently out injured along with Gabriel.

Chambers, who joined Arsenal from Southampton two years ago, is able to play across the defence as well as defensive midfield but found game time at Emirates Stadium difficult to come by last season having only played 12 league games.
