Martin Skrtel is "a last step away" from completing his £5.5 million switch from Liverpool to Fenerbahce.
The centre-back arrived in Istanbul on Tuesday to proceed with the formalities of the move after holidaying with his wife in the French Riviera following Slovakia’s exit from the European Championship.
He is hoping to be officially unveiled on Wednesday.
Skrtel, signed by Rafael Benitez from Zenit St Petersburg for £6.5m in January 2008, fielded interest from Roma, Inter and Wolfsburg before accepting Fener’s proposal.
Their Turkish rivals Galatasaray and Besiktas also made approaches to the player’s camp but the runners-up in last season’s Super Lig were the only side to formally match Liverpool’s valuation for the defender.
"Obviously I'm very happy to be here," Skrtel told Fenerbahce TV.
"I'm looking forward to tomorrow.
I've known Fenerbahce as a team and a club already. Also I spoke with Miroslav Stoch and he told me beautiful things about the club and city."
"There were some offers from the other clubs but as I said before to a newspaper, the offer from the Fenerbahce was very straight from the beginning.
"Fenerbahce is a massive club and for these reasons I accepted this offer. Tomorrow we'll complete the last step and I hope tomorrow I'll become a Fenerbahce player officially."
Skrtel, who inked a new contract with the Reds until 2018 in July last year, saw his playing time dwindle at Anfield.
He made just 27 appearances in 2015-16, the lowest total he recorded for a full season in his eight-and-half years of service.
The 31-year-old enjoyed 48 games in the campaign prior but was not a preferred starter under Jurgen Klopp.
Skrtel will depart having made 320 appearances for the Reds, winning the League Cup in 2012.
Jordon Ibe and Sergi Canos are also nearing Liverpool exits with the former saying his goodbyes at Melwood on Tuesday after agreeing a £15m move to Bournemouth.
