The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have failed to beat a seven-day ultimatum they handed their technical committee to name a new headcoach for the country to further raise questions over their seriousness for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.
Last week Tuesday, the NFF executive committee rose from a stormy meeting to announce that the technical committee have a week to recommend a foreign coach for the Eagles.
“All the attention and focus for the past one week has been on receiving the FIFA president Gianni Infantino,” admitted one top official.
Several of the technical committee members told AfricanFootball.com they are unaware of any moves to name a replacement for Frenchman Paul Le Guen after he rejected an offer to lead the Super Eagles.
Part of the plan in the aftermath of the Le Guen snub was for fresh applications to be admitted as most of the 20 coaches who first indicated interest to handle the Eagles “were not good enough”.
Nigeria will begin their qualifying campaign for Russia 2018 in Zambia on October 3.
Their other group foes are Algeria and Cameroon.
