Former Super Eagles and Schalke forward Chinedu Obasi is close to landing a new deal with Norwegian side Lillestrom after undergoing a successful trial at the club, a Norwegian website reports.
Obasi who has been without a club since July 2015 had earlier undergone trials with Sunderland FC, Eintracht Frankfurt and German Regionalliga West side SV Waldhof.
According to Norwegian website Nrk.no, coach of Lillestrom Runar Kristinsson is desperate to land the 30-year-old who showed glimpses of his old form when he scored a brace in a test game lost Lillestrom 3-2 to Valerenga.
Kristinsson sees Obasi as a good replacement for top scorer Frederic Friday, a Nigerian, if he eventually departs the club this summer.

"I hope to sign him but we will sit down with him the next few days but finally, it is up to the board," Kristinsson told the website.
"He has shown good form and he wants to get out there again.
"He has experience at a high level, and he brings experience to the younger boys. He is a true professional and a role model."
