Barcelona Deny Nigerian defender Godswill Ekpolo New Contract

Nigerian defender, Godswill Ekpolo has failed to tie a new deal with Spanish giants, Barcelona. The 21-year old who has already featured for the Dream Team VI, Nigeria’s U-23 was understood to be hoping for a new deal in the Summer but his Catalan club decided otherwise; thus ending the decade relationship with the Nigerian.


While Ekpolo rues his chief wish of not staring for the Barcelona first team, he remains glad with the sucesses he recorded playing for the youth sides. He shared an emotional message to the Barca faithful and his teammates on social media as he gets to face life elsewhere.

Part of the message posted on social media by Ekpolo read :

I know that I have been blessed to be part of a Club like Barca. There have been good times and bad times. “I have cried and laugh with you. I have lost and celebrated with you. But no matter the situation, my passion has been clear – playing and winning.” Ekpolo added : “Obviously, I won’t be able to do that next season but I hope that the supporters and my teammates will be able to enjoy many joyful moments. 

 Ekpolo 21, enjoyed relative success with Barca youth team, helping the U19s win the UEFA Youth League two years ago .
