Fabio Capello believes Carlos Tevez deserves to be a contender for this year's Ballon d'Or but added it will be difficult for the Juventus ace to beat "unique genius" Lionel Messi to the accolade.
Tevez has been in sensational form this season, with his fantastic
form for the Bianconeri - 28 goals in all competitions - earning him a
recall to the Argentina squad.
Capello has nothing but admiration for the striker, whom he believes
is making a very strong case to be shortlisted for the 2015 Ballon d'Or.
"It will depend on Juventus' Champions League campaign," the Russia coach told Tuttosport .
"But Tevez is certainly one of those few players that can really make
a difference on the pitch and there were weaker candidates for the
Ballon d'Or last season than him.
"Messi, however, is Messi. He has a unique genius. He's like Maradona and Pele."
Juventus will play Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the Champions
League, with Barcelona taking on Bayern Munich in the other tie.
Some pundits believe that the draw worked out well for the Bianconeri
but Capello fears the Italian champions will struggle to break the
Blancos down in next week's first-leg clash in Turin.
"At this point, anything is possible," the former Bianconeri and
Madrid coach added. "And Juve have great players in terms of quality.
"But to say Juve got the softest draw is wrong. Maybe it's because of my past that I have a weakness for Madrid.
"But we are talking about a great team, on a par with Bayern and Barcelona.
"Also, of the three, Carlo Ancelotti's team are the strongest and best-equipped defensively.
"The first game will be very important for Juventus. They must not concede. That's the number one rule in this case.
"If they don't let in any goals at Juventus Stadium, then they can go
onto the pitch at the Santiago Bernabeu with more calm and less
tension."
