True or False? Former Barcelona and Real Madrid star Michael Laudrup says it is impossible to pick who is the better player between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The two Liga stars have battled it out for every major team and
individual prize in the game over the last seven years, breaking record
after record for the respective clubs.
And Laudrup says that rather than trying to choose between the two, Spanish football should just be thankful for both.
“You cannot choose between them,” Laudrup told AS.
“One is the best one season, and then other the next. And so on. I
think the best thing is that the league is very lucky to be able to
enjoy them both
"Not only have they played in the same country, which is a great
privilege for Spain, but we’ve had one at Real Madrid and the other at
Barcelona, in the middle of that historic rivalry.
"That competition made them both better, because they consistently go
further, constantly looking to better themselves. The result is
obvious: a record a week, every goal better than the last. They are
still seeking to overcome what is by now almost impossible – and we are
guaranteed a show.”
Laudrup went on to say he thinks Real Madrid are favourites for their Champions League semi-final with Juventus.
“Everything that has happened in recent years, from
Juve's 2006 relegation, their return to win the Scudetto and
re-emergence in Europe has made them stronger,” he said.
“But my favourite for the tie is Madrid. Who will win the Champions League is another matter. We'll have to wait and see."
