The former Bolton burly defender beat his compatriots Hope Akpan and Elliot Omozusi to the coveted award.
He said shortly after winning the award: "The only thing greater than achieving is inspiring"
Other winners on the night include, Derby County who won the Community Club of the Year, Conor Chaplin who was named the apprentice of the Year for the Championship.
