Flying Eagles Thrash Congo Counterparts To Seal World Cup Place

The Nigeria U20, the Flying Eagles are through to the FIFA U20 World Cup coming up in New Zealand later this year after another spectacular display saw them beating their Congolese counterparts 4-1 on Wednesday.

Despite being reduced to 10-men after the sending off of goalkeeper Joshua Enaholo early in the first half, the Coach Manu Garba tutored side were able to hold their own to secure their second successive win at the ongoing Africa Youth Championships taking place in Senegal.
 

 As always, the Flying Eagles were blazing hot from the blast of the whistle and their rampaging start saw them taking an early in the 8th minute when a defense splitting pass was manufactured by Bernard Bulbwa and Ifeanyi Matthew latched onto the pass  before dispatching the ball into the net after a great control.

The second goal for Nigeria came from the penalty spot when Taiwo Awoniyi was hacked down in the Congolese box and captain Musa Muhammed was on hand to calmly slot in the ball to give the 10-men Flying Eagles team a two-goal cushion.

The Nigeria U20 team kept the advantage going into the second and barely eight minutes after the restart the Flying Eagles were gifted another penalty when Awoniyi was again brought down by the naïve Congolese defenders.

On hand to take the penalty kick again was Captain Musa who buried the ball into the net to extend Nigeria’s lead to 3-0.

While Congo did pull one goal back, the Flying Eagles showed that they were not done; scoring one more goal late in the game to end the match 4-1 and thus become the first team from Africa to qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand.
