The Nigeria U20 team, the Flying Eagles are through to the finals of the
ongoing Africa Youth Championships as they beat fierce West African
rivals Ghana 2-0 on Wednesday in the first semifinal played at the
Leopold Sedar Senghor Stadium in Dakar.
A goal in each half was all that was required from the Flying Eagles
team to maintain their unbeaten run at the 2015 AYC and stay on course
to win Nigeria’s seventh AYC title.
After starting rather slowly Obinna Nwobodo through a ‘lucky header’ in
the 23rd minute put Nigeria in front after the 18-year old Enugu Rangers
player rose high to connect to a cross from Captain Musa Muhammed and
the effort was bundled in by the Ghana goalkeeper
In the 32nd minute, Ghana U20 team, the Black Satellites came pretty
close to restoring parity but they could only hit the bar with their
effort.
The cushion goal Nigeria needed finally came in the 72nd minute when the
Flying Eagles won a penalty kick and was again converted by Skipper
Musa Muhammed.
The Flying Eagles will now wait for who their opponents will be between
Mali and Senegal who play the other semifinal game on Thursday.
