I never planned leaving Chelsea for PSG, says Eden Hazard

Eden Hazard insists he was never likely to join PSG, after signing a new five-and-a-half-year deal at Chelsea earlier this week.

The France international was heavily linked with a move to the Ligue 1 giants last season, with Laurent Blanc declaring his interest amid rumours of a big-money bid.

However, Hazard claims he always intended to remain at Stamford Bridge, insisting that the speculation came solely from the media.

“PSG? Personally there was never anything in that,” he told Telefoot. “The newspapers talked about it a lot, but I knew from the start that I would stay at Chelsea.”

The Blues face Hazard’s apparent suitors in the Champions League later this week and the winger is confident of a result, with Jose Mourinho's men having defeated PSG on away goals last season after overturning a 3-1 first leg deficit.

“I don’t think it was a miracle against them last year,” Hazard added. “We shouldn’t have lost 3-1 in the first leg, we should have played better some counterattacks. And we made two defensive errors.

“We were a little bit lucky to score in the last minute. It will be a whole other game this year. We’re on a good run, we’re first in the league and we’ve got reinforcements.

“I still follow Ligue 1 and I can see that PSG is in a little bit of trouble, but they have great players who can make the difference. Perhaps we’re the favourites, but you can never tell in football.”
