Former Germany captain Lothar Matthaus has urged Lukas Podolski to prove his ability as a player again after suggesting he has devoted too much time to social media.
The 29-year-old is poised to seal a loan switch to Inter after becoming
frustrated with life at Arsenal, for whom he has not started a league
game all season.
The former Bayern Munich striker has earned a
staggering 121 caps for Germany and added the World Cup to his list of
honours this summer, but Matthaus claims he has not done enough of his
talking on the pitch in recent years.
"Lukas has his qualities; now he must prove them by bringing them back to the pitch," he said to Sky.
"In the past we heard how he tweets more than he plays. He needs to concentrate on football."
Podolski
himself hit back at the World Cup-winning captain via Twitter, stating:
"I find it very amusing that Matthaus should give me precise tips on
how to behave."
The forward was at Inter's Appiano Gentile complex on Saturday to meet with head coach Roberto Mancini prior to his move.
