Thegoalmac has learned that Manchester City have "no agreement" with New York City FC over the registration of Frank Lampard, according to the Premier League.
The
midfielder joined the new MLS outfit following the expiry of his
Chelsea contract and was due to move to America in January after
completing a short-term loan with the Premier League champions.
However,
Lampard opted to stay at the Etihad Stadium prompting questions over
who owns his contract, with City Football Group - owned by Sheikh
Mansour - having a controlling stake in the MLS franchise.
Lampard's
deal with City was referred to as a "loan" in the summer but the club
spoke of his "contract" being extended on December 31 and has another
year left to run on any contract with City Football Group.
"Frank
Lampard is registered as a Manchester City player until the end of the
2014-15 season," a statement from the Premier League read.
"The
Premier League has sought and received assurances from Manchester City
that there is no agreement in place between the club or City Football
Group with New York City FC relating to the player."
