Pele is in stable condition after Kidney surgery

Thegoalmac can reveal that footballing icon Pele has had an operation to remove stones from his kidney, bladder and urethra, and is said to be in stable condition.

The three-time World Cup winner was admitted to a hospital in Sao Paulo on Wednesday after complaining of stomach pains, forcing him to cancel a book signing in Santos.

Scans revealed that the 74-year-old, who was inducted into Goal's Hall of Fame on Tuesday, had stones which needed to be removed. He underwent surgery on Thursday morning.

The Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, in which he is being kept, has released a statement revealing that he has had a successful operation and is doing well.

"After conducting tests, the presence of kidney, ureteral and bladder stones were found, causing obstruction to urine flow," the statement read. "This morning he underwent a surgical procedure to remove the stones and is currently clinically stable and recovering."
