Spain coach Vicente del Bosque has challenged Diego Costa to transfer
his club form onto the international stage and prove he is the man to
lead the La Roja attack during Euro 2016 qualifying.
Personally i think Spain's style of play is different to what Costa is use to,which is counter attack and long balls,as we can see at the weekend against Arsenal.
Hopefully with time he will learn how to play the tiki taka way, continue to see what Del Bosque said.
"Diego has in front of him the challenge to show everyone that we have taken the right decision," Del Bosque told Spanish sports newspaper Marca.
"Maybe we are wrong, and it does happen in football, but I have a lot of confidence in him that he is going to do very well.
"I
think that he can be very important for us as I believe in his
qualities. He has put his faith in us and we have put ours in him.
"If I had seen anything that made me doubt him then I would say it."
Costa has failed to register a goal in five appearances for the Spanish national team though will be
hopeful of opening his La Roja account against Slovakia in Bratislava on Thursday or away at Luxembourg on Sunday.
Del
Bosque does not believe Costa's struggle on the international stage is
due to incompatibility with Spain's style of play however, even though
he thrives off long balls from midfield, while La Roja prefer a shorter tiki-taka passing game.
"He
is different to [Fernando] Llorente but he and [Paco] Alcacer are quite
similar, they look for space and make runs to open the defence," Del
Bosque said.
"In the last European Championships we had [David]
Silva, Cesc [Fabregas] and [Andres] Iniesta. It would have been great if
we could have had Diego along with them as well."
