Can City
finally build on their domestic dominance, or will Jose Mourinho's
new-look Chelsea side return the Portuguese to the summit of European
football?
Might Liverpool or Arsenal pull off a surprise and make a deep run towards continental glory?The Blues were the last English club to win the
competition in 2012 and advanced to the semi-finals last season before
falling to Atletico Madrid.
This year, they will face Schalke,
Sporting Lisbon and Maribor in the group stage as Jose Mourinho aims to
claim the continental crown with a third club.
Manchester City
have won two of the last three Premier League titles but have struggled
to replicate their domestic form in Europe. They take on Bayern Munich,
Roma and CSKA Moscow in this year's first round.
Returning to
Europe's elite tournament for the first time in five years are five-time
winners Liverpool, who will face Real Madrid, Basel and Ludogorates.
Arsenal,
who continue their remarkable run of qualification for the Champions
League but have never won the competition, will take on Borussia
Dortmund, Galatasaray and Anderlecht for a place in the next round.
