Water has definitely passed Garri in Delta state as players of Nigerian league club Warri Wolves have sounded out their intentions of abstaining from their next two games in protest of non-payment of salaries and match bonuses.
The players see the action as a last resort after their appeal to the government to come to their aid continues to be met with broken promises.
It is understood that the players are being owed salaries up to five months and about six match bonuses.
"We may be forced to boycott league matches beginning from next week Wednesday against Enyimba should the state government continue to pay lip service to our welfare,” said one of the affected players.
“Majority of us now resort to borrowing to meet our financial demands and all appeals to the state government, through the chairman of the commission, who is a brother to the governor, have been unsuccessful."
General Manager of Warri Wolves, Moses Etu has appealed to the players to show patience and understanding, telling members of his team that the chairman is working hard to ensure the salaries being owed are paid and match bonuses could be released before their next game.
Management at the Seasiders’ club would be hoping to avoid the proposed strike with the team deep in relegation battles with the season set to end soon.
