Bremen sporting director, Frank Bauman revealed that the club never planned on selling the striker. "It was not actually our intention to sell Tony because he was set to play an important role in our plans for next season," Bauman told Bremen's official website.
"But he told us a few days ago that he would like to accept the offer from China. In the end, we have come to a satisfactory solution for both parties so that we could agree to his request.
The Benue State striker described his move to the Chinese league as an opportunity which he couldn't turn down.
He scored 11 Bundesliga and three DFB Cup goals for Werder Bremen after he joined from another German side, FC Köln in summer 2015.It was a very difficult decision for me because I’ve become very fond of the city, the club and, above all, the fans in the past year. That’s why a possible transfer didn’t come into question in winter," he said.
“Now there is a new opportunity, which I can’t reject. I’m lucky that I could contribute to the happy ending of last season and wish SVW all the best.
