Arsene Wenger has revealed that he told Jurgen Klopp to “calm down” in order to stop the Liverpool manager from being sent to the stands.
The German was involved in a heated exchange with Bobby Madley during the thrilling 3-3 draw at Anfield, which was sealed by Joe Allen’s equaliser in the 90th minute.
Klopp has been involved in several clashes with fourth officials since arriving at Liverpool in October, and Wenger admits he was forced to intervene on Wednesday evening.
“I told him just calm down because they will send you in the stands!” revealed the Arsenal boss.
“At Liverpool it is very tight we are very close to each other, and he was spoken to by the official. It was alright, we had no bad feeling at all.”
Klopp, meanwhile, denies that the conversation on the touchline with Wenger was an argument.
“I told Arsene why I was a little bit emotional because it was a clear throw-in for us in a good phase, yeah, I asked ref No.4 why he was here... he didn't like it!” said the German.
“I had nothing with Arsene. I had nothing with Sam Allardyce and you wrote it.
“I said what I said and it was obviously too much, and the fourth official told the ref, and he spoke. I had no argument with Arsene Wenger.”
