Wenger 'positive' midfielder Elneny will join Arsenal this week

Arsene Wenger has stated his belief that Arsenal could be mere days away from completing a deal for Basel midfielder Mohamed Elneny.

The Frenchman has made no secret of the Gunners' interest in the 23-year-old defensive midfielder, but has now admitted that the Emirates side are on the verge of making the signing official.

"We hope that it'll be finalised this week," Wenger told the press. "We're positive it can happen.

"As long as it's not definitely signed, you have to be cautious. But I'm optimistic."
