Thegoalmac brings you Top 5 shortest football players, considering the fact that football is no more the huge guys game, as Xavi, iniesta and Messi  and a host of other small players have proved in recent years, the game now does not necessarily demands a strong, muscular presence of players but it has now got history and traditions of small players who have proved their technical abilities in the game.

So that leaves us with accepting the fact that height and being strongly built does still matter but also doesn't if your small and have got the needed technical abilities to play the beautiful game. Here are Thegoalmac's Top 5 shortest players around the world. 

  5.Rui Gil Soares de Barros:

 This 1.6 m (5 feet 3 inches) Portugal player who has now moved into management used to be a highly dangerous attacking midfielder.

This small heighted player is at no. 5 of our list of the Top 5 Shortest Football Players. Rui Gil Soares de Barros has represented Porto, Juventus and Marseille among other clubs in the late 80’s and 90’s. With his small height he has made a name in the world of football.

 His skilled techniques at the game, his exceedingly well playing style and his ability to keep the ball away from the opponents was a proof of his having a successful career in football.  He has scored 43 goals in 191 games which is another proof of his being a great footballer.


4. Jafal Rashed Al-Kuwari:



Jafal Rashed Al-Kuwari, a 1.55 m (5 feet 1 inch) tall footballer is at no. 4 on our list. He has played as a midfielder for Qatari side Al-Sadd and 2009 is the year of his retirement.

He played his farewell match against AC Milan and throughout his career he has been a promising player of football.

He has remained the captain of the Qatari national team and, also, plays beach football for it. Despite his small height, he has proved himself as one of the best footballers the world has ever produced.


 3. Marcin Garuch:
Marcin Garuch is 1.55 m (5 feet 1 inch) tall footballer who is a Polish national takes our number 3 spot.
He plays for Miedz Legnica club in the Puchar Polski and is known for his marvellous skill in deadball situations.

With his small size he moves the ball quickly up to the forwards. Garuch with his small stature plays great football and his technical skill at the game is a live proof of his abilities.


2. Daniel Alberto Villalva Barrios:

This player is 1.54 m (5 feet 0.63 inches) tall and is at no. 2 on our list of the Top 5 Shortest Football
Players. He is from Argentina and is a striker for River Plate. Villalva is the shortest player in the team and is also the youngest player to play for River Plate. 

He is 21 years old and has also played for Argentina in the 2009 U-17 World Cup. Despite his small body he has showed up as a competent footballer the team could have.

1. Élton José Xavier Gomes:

So who comes at no.1 on our list of the Top 5 Shortest Football Players is this 1.54 m (5 feet 0.63 inches) Brazilian footballer, Elton Gomes.

 This shortest footballer on the planet is an attacking midfielder for Saudi club Al-Fateh and iis the one who was signed by the Romanian side Bucuresti in 2007. He shows uniqueness in football techniques and has his trademark afro style. 

Last season, this small statured footballer scored 11 goals for his side resulting into victory at the league for the first time.
