Watford 1-2 Manchester United: Deeney goes from hero to zero with late own goal

Troy Deeney went from hero to zero in the final five minutes as Watford narrowly lost to Manchester United on Saturday.

Memphis Depay, afforded his first Premier League start since being hauled off at half-time against Arsenal in October, showed confidence by breaking the deadlock with a volley after just 11 minutes.

Ander Herrera, who assisted Memphis's opener, was forced off through injury shortly afterwards to add to United's injury concerns, but Watford failed to capitalise in a frustrating afternoon for the hosts.

United were in control for the majority, though had David de Gea to thank for two fine saves as the visitors' run without conceding stretched to over 10 hours as they went top of the Premier League table.

Watford looked to have snatched a point when Deeney converted a late penalty, ending United's long run without conceding, only for the striker to turn Bastian Schweinsteiger's injury time shot into his own net.
