Van Nistelrooy urges Vardy to level scoring record

Ruud van Nistelrooy has backed Jamie Vardy to equal his Premier League scoring record this weekend, with Leicester City set to face Newcastle United.

Vardy has scored in nine consecutive Premier League matches for the Foxes this season - he is the current leading scorer in the top-flight, with 12 goals in total - and can match Van Nistelrooy's streak of 10 in a row at Manchester United with a goal against the Magpies.

And, instead of despairing over the prospect of having to share his record, the former Netherlands international has wished the 28-year-old luck ahead of the match at St James' Park.

Van Nistelrooy wrote on Instagram: "Records are there to be broken... Go on @Vardy7, all the best and good luck!"

Ironically, the Dutchman set his own record at Newcastle's home ground, and accompanied the status with a picture of him celebrating his milestone goal.
