Didier Drogba has revealed that a text message from Frank Lampard prevented him from leaving Chelsea in 2006.
The Ivorian, who was signed from Marseille for £24 million in 2004, had scored 22 Premier League goals in his first two seasons at Stamford Bridge but had been linked with a move to Serie A.
“The guy who single-handedly convinced me to stay was Frank Lampard,” Drogba said in his autobiography ‘Commitment’, which is being serialised by the Daily Mail.
Drogue reveals the text message read: “Hi DD, I hope that you're staying, because we have to win the league together, and we have to win the Champions League together!”
