NPFL Week 38 Recap: Enyimba Crowned Champions As Sharks Go Down

Sharks FC of Port Harcourt will be playing in the second-tier of Nigeria football next season as they were relegated from the top flight on Sunday.

The Blue Angels who needed an outright win to guarantee their Premier League status could not get the required result as they were piped 1-0 by Abia Warriors in one of the final games of the NPFL played Sunday across the country.

However, while it was a dark Sunday for Sharks FC, it was a super one for Enyimba as they were officially crowned champions of the 2014/15 season in Lagos.

The Peoples Elephant despite having nothing at stake in Sunday’s game at Teslim Balogun Stadium still battled the Akure Gunners to a standstill as the game ended 0-0.

With the one point from the game in Lagos, Enyimba finished the season with 70 points to claim seventh League shield. For now the identity of those to represent Nigeria on the continent looks clear.

Warri Wolves are all but confirmed to join Enyimba in the CAF Champions League even though they could not play their final game of the season as the heavy downpour forced their tie against Bayelsa United to be pushed to Monday morning.

Also the crucial clash in Lafia involving continental hopefuls Nasarawa United and Giwa FC was inconclusive even though the home side were enjoying a 2-0 lead. If the result stays, Nasarawa United will be snatching the CAF Confederation ticket.
