Bayer Leverkusen defender Giulio Donati has backed Jose Mourinho to turn things around at Chelsea after a dreadful start to the season.
The Blues have lost seven of their opening 12 Premier League games and are just three points above the relegation zone, but Roman Abramovich has decided to stick with the Portuguese coach for the time being.
Donati, who was coached by Mourinho at Inter, has backed the 52-year-old to come good, pointing out he was bound to have a slump in his career at some point.
"Sooner or later, it had to happen," the 25-year-old told Goal. "Since he won his first Champions League with Porto, he knew he would one day face a moment like this. It’s happened 10 years later - that’s not that bad for him.
"Mourinho is a great manager. I’m sure he’ll cope with this blip and I guess Chelsea are pretty sure he will as well because they decided to keep him.
"There’s no coach better than him. They know he’s the only one who can change things at Chelsea."
Reflecting on what it was like to work with Mourinho, Donati explained some of the secrets which have led to so much success in the Chelsea manager’s career.
"When I was at Inter, I remember he behaved the same way with all the players, no matter if you were the captain, Javier Zanetti, or the youngest guy, which was me," he added.
"That’s important for a player. Regardless of his final choices, all the players on the bench felt part of the group and when they were called up they always gave their best.
"He’s an excellent motivator; no one else is able to prepare for matches like him, regardless of if you are playing against a title rival or the side bottom of the table.
"His strongest asset is that you barely see him at training - he’s always in his office, studying the opponents and preparing for the next game.
"When you seldom see your coach, you pay more attention to his speeches, because he always has something important to say. He’s always able to say the right things at the right moment."
