African WCQ Recap: Egypt And Cote D'Ivoire Scale Through

Four goals in the first half by Egypt ensured that they beat Chad 4-0 in their 2018 FIFA World Cup second leg qualifier on Tuesday at Borg El Arab Stadium. Egypt powered to a convincing win in Alexandria, overturning a 1-0 loss and a major surprise in the first leg in Chad.

Egypt’s team,  distracted by violence and upheaval at home, moved a step closer to its first major tournament since winning the African Cup title in 2010.
No one would have expected Egypt to come back this strong as they had lost 1-0 in the first leg, but things turned the other way for them.

As early as the fifth minute Neney sent a clear message clear as he scored the first goal for Egypt, taking the game to a tie on aggregate.

Five minutes later Abdallah Saied doubled the score to 2-0 which saw his team extending the lead in the 10th minute of the match.

In the 36 minute Ahmed Hassan registered his name on the score sheet, extending the score to 3-0.
Four minutes later Hassan came back to net a brace as he found the back of the net in the 40th minute which saw his side going into half time with a 4-0 lead.

Ghana beat Comoros 2-0 to head through to the final group stage which will decide the five African teams at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Wakaso Mubarak and Jordan Ayew were Ghana’s goal-scorers.

Cameroon, under new interim coach Alexandre Belinga, was happy to settle for a 0-0 home draw against Niger. That allowed the Cameroonians to qualify for the next round after winning the first leg 3-0 last week.

Morocco and Tunisia also progressed, as did Libya with a 4-1 aggregate win over Rwanda, giving the conflict-wrecked nation a chance of a major sporting boost if it were to make the World Cup.

South Africa was surprisingly powerful in beating Angola 4-1 on aggregate, with an own goal by Manucho in Durban sealing Bafana Bafana’s 1-0 win in the second leg.

Second half goals from Syam Ben Yousseff and Saad Bguir saw Tunisia secure a 2-1 win overMauritania in a second leg, 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night.

The result combined with Tunisia’s 2-1 win in the first leg sees them into the next stages of World Cup qualification 4-2 on aggregate.
The first half was a tightly contested affair with very few chances on goal for either side.

Despite playing away from home Mauritania had the majority of possession, but they struggled to break down a well-organised Tunisian defence.

Côte d’Ivoire cruised past Liberia in the second round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, after recording a 3-0 win over the Lone Star in Abidjan on Tuesday.

The Elephants sealed their spot in the group stage 4-0 on aggregate, following their 1-0 victory in Monrovia in the first leg.

Stade Rennais striker Giovanni Sio put Côte d’Ivoire ahead on 16 minutes, as the locals dominated from the start at Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny.

And the 26-year-old doubled his side’s lead 20 minutes later to send the Elephants with a comfortable two-goal cushion into the break.

OGC Nice midfielder and former ASEC Mimosas playmaker Jean Michael Seri finished the job past the hour mark, to extend the 2015 African champions’ international journey in their bid for a fourth consecutive FIFA World Cup finals appearance.
