'100 per cent security does not exist', says Head of German Police

The head of a German police union has admitted that "100 per cent security doesn't exist" as the Bundesliga prepares to step up safety measures following the terrorist attacks in Paris.

Over 120 people were killed in three separate incidents, which included the detonating of a bomb by extremists at the Stade de France during France's friendly with Germany.

Die Mannschaft then saw their friendly with Netherlands called off after intelligence services learned of a plot to detonate explosives inside Hannover stadium, where the game was due to be played.

However, Bundesliga matches will still go ahead this weekend, despite continued fears over further attacks, with a key security figure admitting the threat remains a very real one.

Head of police union Deutsche Polizeigewerkschaft Rainer Wendt told Goal: "Clubs must step up security to the maximum of their capablities. Not everybody has FC Bayern's resources.

"The clubs will do their part, police will do its part. And together we will do it. If we all give our best, we can maximise security, but always knowing that 100 security does not exist.
"At the same time everybody needs to relax mentally. Not every big coat means an explosive belt. If we manage to do that, we will soon have serenity and happiness in our events again.

"The clubs have showed with their press conferences and their requests to the fans, to not use fire crackers for example, that they act very responsibly.

"There is the clear advice to all fans, to travel early. At least in the short future you have to expect to be controlled very detailed. We owe that to the people and we don't want anybody to be scared."
