De Gea in, Schweinsteiger out: Van Gaal reveals Man Utd line-up plans Vs Barca

Louis van Gaal is confident David de Gea will be fit for Manchester United's clash with Barcelona, but Bastian Schweinsteiger has been ruled out.

The goalkeeper has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid and missed victories over Club America and San Jose Earthquakes with what Van Gaal has described as a minor training ground injury.

Reports has it that United have given up hope of retaining De Gea this summer, and are demanding a bid in excess of £30 million for the 24-year-old, but Van Gaal is planning to select him on Saturday.

He told reporters: "When a player is injured it's the same thing as when you have to wait during the season. I give players time to recover and build up their fitness.

"It's still possible he'll be ready to start the season against Spurs because he shall play on Saturday."

Schweinsteiger, meanwhile, has featured in both of United's pre-season games, but was criticised for his performance against San Jose by Van Gaal and will not have a chance to redeem himself in Santa Clara.

Van Gaal added: "Bastian shall not play because he had a little injury. He has a minor issue. I don't take risks in preparation and he doesn't either. It's not serious.

"I shall play with the line-up I think we could play against Spurs. Those who play 60 minutes are more likely to play against Tottenham.

"The performance is much more important than the result in pre-season but I would be very happy to win."
