Inzaghi regrets missed AC Milan chances in 0-0 draw Vs Chievo
Filippo Inzaghi attempted to paint a positive picture following AC Milan's 0-0 draw away to Chievo but admitted his side's lack of cutting edge was a cause for concern.
The Rossoneri beat Cesena last weekend but followed that up with a disappointing result on Saturday, which dealt their bid to qualify for European football next season another blow.
Inzaghi is also sure to come under further pressure, but the Italian remained upbeat after the game and pointed to the number of chances Milan created.
"I look at the glass half-full, because it is our second consecutive clean sheet, but then once again we lost two important players to injury and wasted scoring opportunities," he said.
“I believe we have improved in our possession over the last two games and I thought Mattia Destro put in a great performance, but we didn’t score and that is the real regret."
Milan lost Nigel de Jong and Riccardo Montolivo to injury, while January signing Alessio Cerci was only introduced late on, with Inzaghi still cautious over the winger's fitness.
"It is best to keep a substitution open for the final 15 minutes, as you never know if you are going to lose someone to injury and be left with 10 men," added the coach.
“We tried to use four attacking players, but unfortunately our midfielders are not in great shape after injury and a team requires balance. For the moment we will alternate them.
“Alessio can play as a support striker and could be a trequartista in better condition. It hurts me too that I leave out players like Cerci and Giampaolo Pazzini, but these are the circumstances right now.
“Alessio is a player I wanted and we will get the best out of him, but let us not forget he barely played for six months, so needs time to find his form."
The result leaves Milan ninth in Serie A, though victories for both Torino and Palermo on Sunday could see the Rossoneri drop into the bottom half of the table.
