Carvajal: Lack of scoring accuracy cost Madrid two points

Daniel Carvajal rued Real Madrid's profligacy in front of goal as they were 1-1 Liga draw against Villarreal on Sunday.

Cristiano Ronaldo gifted the Santiago Bernabeu side the lead shortly after the break when he converted a spot kick, but Gerard Moreno restored parity around the hour-mark to leave the hosts disappointed.

"We bombarded the oppositions' area during the final 15 minutes, putting in crosses and creating numerous chances, but we lacked accuracy with our shooting and that has cost us dearly," Carvajal told the official Madrid website.

"We were up against a great rival, but we lacked shooting accuracy and it is a shame we were not able to win. We leave here feeling like we've dropped two points. Our aim at home was to come away with all three points.

"The coach told us during the half-time break that we had to up our tempo and take fewer touches on the ball. But games don't always play out the way you'd like."

The right-back, 23, then went on to stress that Madrid are aware of the strength of their rivals in the race for the Liga title and are not getting carried away irrespective of their lead.

"Our rivals in La Liga have strong squads and nobody ever said that winning this championship was going to be easy."
Madrid remain first in the table, holding a two-point lead over Barcelona.
