AC 2015: Flying Eagles Thrash Hosts In Tournament Opener

The Nigeria U20 team kicked off the 2015 Africa Youth Championship with a huge 3-1 win over hosts Senegal in the opening game of the tournament.

All the four goals of the game were scored in a frenetic first half that saw the Flying Eagles score two quick goals.

The Flying Eagles opened scoring in the 9th minute when Taiwo Awoniyi ran onto a pass lobbed over the defence, pushed the ball past the advancing keeper, and scored.

The second goal four minutes later was a photo copy of the first. The Senegalese were caught square with yet another lobbed pass, this time Awoniyi lobbed the goalkeeper for the second.

The hosts got back in the game in the 27th minute when they took advantage of a hesitant Nigerian defense to score.

The rampaging Senegalese had broken into the box, and their attacker had gone down under a challenge. The naive Nigerians had hesitated, waiting for the whistle, while the Senegalese played on, and Sidi Sarr fired home with Enaholo off his line.

Then Ifeanyi Mathews made it 3-1 with minutes left in the first half, when he turned his marker inside out at the edge of the box, before rifling home a left footer.
