Wenger blasts Usmanov back for criticising his policy

Thegoalmac can reveal that Arsene Wenger has hit back at criticism from Arsenal's second-biggest shareholder Alisher Usmanov over his handling of the club's transfer policy.

The 61-year-old feels the Gunners boss is not learning from his past mistakes and needs to strengthen the squad in "every position" despite spending over €94 million during the summer.

However, Wenger - who has already admitted he will seek cover during the January window- has questioned Usmanov's professionalism in the aftermath.

"I've shown I can take criticism in the 18 years I have been here," Wenger told reporters.
"Everyone has the right to an opinion. We must show solidarity.

When we have something to say to each other, we should do it face to face. We don't need to go to the newspapers."

Saturday's 2-1 defeat at home to Manchester United has left Arsenal eighth in the Premier League and 15 points behind leaders Chelsea.

Arsenal's start to the league has been their worst in 32 years, while at the same stage last season, Wenger's men were 11 points better off.
