Koeman: Man City are the best team in England

Thegoalmac can reveal that Southampton boss Ronald Koeman had no complaints after his side slumped to 3-0 defeat at home to Manchester City on Sunday, claiming that his side had simply not played well enough to compete with "the strongest team in the Premier League".

Who agrees with Koeman that Man City is the best team in England? For me, I don't think so, Chelsea are the best team in England for me. What do you guys think? Read what Mr Koeman said after the cut.

"I think the start to the second half was better than our start to the first half but if you make mistakes then you’ll be punished for that.

"Even when it was 11 against 10, we make mistakes and they score two more goals and that’s not good.

"We knew we had to be good to get a good result today but I think our ball possession was not good.

"Our defending was good and we created opportunities but we were not good enough today; that’s what I have to say.

"Every opponent is different. Man City are the strongest team in the Premier League and you have to be good to have a good result.

"I don’t think we showed them too much respect – our ball possession is one of our best qualities and you have to be confident in that.

"In the first 10-15 minutes we looked nervous and that made them stronger. Later on we got more comfortable.

"Maybe the pressure on us now is different from start of season but we play to our qualities and it is more difficult against teams like City."

Morgan Schneiderlin was replaced by Maya Yoshida at half-time after picking up a thigh injury and Koeman felt that losing the midfielder played its part in the defeat, while at the same time conceding that City had been on another level to his side.

"It may have had an influence that he went off as he is an important player," the former Barcelona defender added. "We can’t change it up as well as they could in the second half.

"If you do make these mistakes then that is not good enough and you have to be good. We had a chance for a point or even three points today but we were not good enough.

"In the first half we had good organisation but to create the kind of chances we can do, it was not good enough and we were punished. They showed us that difference of what they can do today. That’s football."
